Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
